True Humility Brings Contentment, Not Fear

Hebrews 13:5–6
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because the Lord has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’ So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?’”

TL;DR:
True humility is contentment. When you trust that God will never leave you, fear fades and peace grows.

“Be content with what you have.”

That sounds simple. Yet it can be one of the hardest commands to live out.

Yesterday I was playing with my grandchildren, and their sheer contentment in the present moment amazed me. They weren’t worried about tomorrow. They weren’t wishing for something else. They were simply joyful in what was right in front of them.

Jesus said we must humble ourselves like a child. I am realizing more and more that true humility looks like contentment.

So many moments in my life have been wasted wishing things were different—wishing for more, wishing for change, wishing for something I thought would make everything better. But contentment says, “God has me here for a reason.”

When I struggle with discontent, it helps to stop and give thanks for what is. Gratitude quiets fear. I do not need to be afraid that I won’t get what I want. If God wants me to have something, He is fully capable of providing it. He is not limited. He is not late. He is not confused.

Fear says, “What if I miss out?”
Humility says, “God is enough.”

Because He has promised:
Never will I leave you. Never will I forsake you.

So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.”

Let’s practice contentment today.
Let’s practice humility.
Let’s trade fear for trust.
